On its Bitterfeld site in Germany, Akzo Nobel Base Chemicals produces essential base chemicals for the industry with a state-of-the-art chlor alkali-electrolysis plant. Our products are chlorine, hydrogen chloride, caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite (bleaching lye), hydrochloric acid, hydrogen and sodium sulphate.

At the site Bitterfeld we have more than 100 years experience in the Chlor-Alkali-Process. Since the start-up of the first industrial size Chlor-Alkali-Electrolysis plant in October 16th of 1894 many more contributions to the development of the electrolyser technology and the industrial use of its products came from here.

Akzo Nobel Base Chemicals Bitterfeld is located in the Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Using the close infrastructure within this chemical park we provide our customers with chlorine, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen via pipeline. Thus, a significant part of the chlorine produced by us is consumed by customers within the Chemiepark.
