The region Bitterfeld-Wolfen has a long tradition in hosting chemical industry and is a dynamic business location in the eastern part of Germany. In the commercial triangle set by the cities of Leipzig, Halle (Saale) and Dessau some 1.5 million people are living. Universities, colleges, technical schools and other educational institutions are close by. 

Some 150 years ago the region Bitterfeld-Wolfen started to prosper from open-pit mining of brown coal. Approximately 100 years ago chemical and engineering industry settled here and dominated since then. Since the German Unification,  the industrial area has been successfully modernized proven by the fact that a number of renown international companies have settled here in that period and still do so.

Due to its long tradition, the chemical industry is well accepted by the local population and highly skilled personnel is available.

The structural changes had a positive influence on the quality of live and leisure. The close vicinity to the cities of Halle, Leipzig and Dessau as well as five landscape conservation areas offer numerous possibilities for culture, sports and recreation in the region.
