At Akzo Nobels' Base Chemicals site in Bitterfeld about 70 employees are running a chlor-alkali electrolysis based on the modern membrane technology. With a capacity of 75.000 t/a chlorine and 84.500 t/a caustic soda, the plant is integrated into the chemical supply network of the ChemiePark Bitterfeld-Wolfen, a large industrial site in the so called Chemical Triangle between Halle (Saale), Leipzig and Dessau in the east of Germany.
The electrolysis also supplies our production units for hydrogen chloride, hydrocloric acid and sodium hypochlorite (bleaching lye).
