The new Membrane Electrolysis in Bitterfeld
After two years reconstruction of the former diaphragm plant Chlor IV, the new Chlor-Alkali plant with modern membrane technology was officially started September 8th 2000. With the successful start-up, the last remaining mercury plant at the site Bitterfeld, Chlor III, was finally closed.

Nobody is perfect - The mistake in writing was the only problem. September 8th 2000 the new membrane plant was started with the symbolic connecting of the power supply in presence of Mr. Krallmann (Preussag AG), Mr. Gabriel (minister for economic affairs, Sachsen Anhalt) and Mr. Scheffers BU Manager Akzo Nobel Base Chemicals).
